Effingut

I went to Mumbai for a day. My friend took me to Effingut, Bandra. And that was ‘ein effin’ gut’ decision. It’s lovely to see restaurants and breweries trying out new dishes and blends that defines them. I am always looking for new tastes and experiences and Effingut gave me one.

I was floored by the variety of brews. The ambience was classy and well-lit. The staff was friendly and adept in handling queries related to their beers. Girish helped us with our orders and beers.

What we ordered :
Peach Ginger Melomel, Dunkelweizen, Milk Stout, Crispy Corns, Calcutta Style Chicken Cutlets, Flatbreads (Smoked Ham with Scamorza and red wine based onion topped with granny smith slices | Spiced Pepperoni with Jalapeno and Balsamic Onion Rings)

Effingut did the Crispy Corns perfectly. The corns, spring onions, and bell peppers were fresh and the temperature was perfect. Unlike most, the Cripies weren’t in lumps and too much salted. It is a very common dish and Effingut did it well.

Coming from Kolkata, I was intrigued by the idea of a Calcutta Style Chicken Cutlets. To be honest, it was different. But yeah, differently good. The meat was tender and well done. The crust was not too thick to make the cutlet hard. With the mustard mayonnaise and red tomato sauce, the cutlet tasted really good.

More than what I expected, these Classical flatbreads were crispy and thin. The ingredients of the topping were fresh. And the temperature of the flatbreads was just perfect. The Pepperoni went well with the sour taste of the jalapenos. The taste of balsamic vinegar was subtle and added to the blend. Overall it was something I loved.

About the other flatbread, the Scamorza Cheese added a fantastic stretchy texture to the flatbread. Ham smoked with wine is always a favorite, and loved the dark smoky flavor. Though I personally love, when the ham is smoked with some hardwood, like applewood. Adds a wonderful woody taste to the ham. But let us pass. What was the cherry on the cake, was the Granny Smith slices. Though I have had less fibrous and sweeter versions before, I somehow liked this. Very nice with the beer we were having.

Brews: Talking about beer is difficult because, well beer is emotion and it would take essays to appropriately emote. So, I’ll keep this easy and simple. I mostly drank Peach Ginger Melomel. You know how does it taste? It tastes like a bright sunny morning with a cool breeze blowing over you, while you sit on a small green hill facing the wide open ocean. Yes. This was one of the best brews I ever had, and hats off to Effinhut for this.

I also had the strong dark unfiltered wheat Beer, Dunkelweizen. Very much German and quite strong. Love the malty undertones and rich texture.

I hardly go above 4 with any microbreweries and Effingut has been brilliant and I would give a 4.5 out of 5. Would love to visit it again, whenever I am in Mumbai.
