Shim Shim

Shim Shim is a small food joint located at Bright Street in Park Circus. It is a small cozy place with some waiting time, which actually gives us a hint that their food is in demand. The staffs are friendly and nice. The service is quick.

Shim Shim, Park Circus

What did we order?
Chicken Kothay, Beef Kothay, Chilli Beef with Ginger Pepper Rice, Mongolian Beef with Chilli Garlic Noodles.

Chicken/Beef Kothay is one of the best-est kothays i ever had. And I had a lot of kothays. The flour wrap was thin and not very oily. Unlike many other joints, the fried part of the kothay was not burned but crispy. the inside was moist with the oil from the meat, which led to a very distinct taste of the respective meat. The filling was soft and delicious.

P.S. I am always intimidated by the red sauce, but hell yeah, you must not miss that. Though this red sauce is not much different from the others, it added a known taste to the kothays.

Chilli Beef is one of the most common dishes. I love it when restaurants don’t foul up regular common dishes. The meat was tender and fresh. The preparation was neat and simple. The soya was not overwhelming and the chilli was not too hot. This perfect blend made the dish quite enjoyable.

Mongolian Beef is a specialty from Shim Shim. Though I had variants of meats prepared in Mongolian style, this dish was really brilliant. The meat, as usual, was tender. The preparation, I found had a unique complex taste. I am used to the regular mix of soya and strong garlic and ginger tastes in beef. However, what floored me was the mild sweetness along with the salty Soya. The icing on the cake was the taste of lemongrass in this mix.

Ginger Pepper Rice and Chilli Garlic Noodles were the usual types. When you have such delicious sides, you tend to get diverted from the noodles. The noodles were appropriately soft and the rice well cooked.

Shim shim has my attention now. Would love to visit them again and try out some more along with Mongolian beef again. I would give shim shim a fantastic 4 out of 5.
