The 8th Day Cafe and Bakery

8th Day is a quaint little place which is absolutely brilliant. A cafe that offers a plethora of classical cakes which many bakeries in the town still fails to perfect.

The place is well decorated with a wonderful calm ambience. Staffs are cheerful. My first impression of this place was ‘warm’ and ‘friendly’. There are also so many board games to play around while you wait for food or enjoy the brilliantly done cakes.

What we played: Star wars Memory Game. (since we couldn’t really wrap our heads around the actual rules, we made up a custom game out of it)

What we ordered: Autumn Crescendo; Oolong; Everything Bagel; Pumpkin Pie; Old-fashioned Apple Pie; Signature Cinnamon Rolls.

I’m not much of a tea connoisseur, hence shouldn’t comment a lot. However, I found both the infusions to be delightful. Autumn Crescendo, I heard is from the last batch to be harvested before the tea bushes go to ‘sleep’ for the year. It had a darker yellowish color with a flowery aroma. The tea left a malty undertone which I honestly loved.

Oolong, however, had a greener tinge. I was told that it is a very lightly oxidized tea with a very short drying process. It has a strange melon-y smell with a floral aroma. Very complicated. Very nice.

‘Everything Bagel’ is a classic. A brilliant mix of sesame, Poppy seeds, Onion and Garlic. Each lending a particular attribute to the bagel. The sesame adds a nutty crunch to the bagel crisp; Onion and Garlic add to the strong flavor and Poppy seeds adds to the texture of the bagel. The entire combination is fresh and brilliant.

‘Pumpkin Pie’ is a seasonal special and we were lucky to be at the right time. I always tend to get impressed by the crust of a pie. The crust was tender, flaky and perfectly melted in the mouth. As we moved in, the cake was smooth, thick and creamy with the aromatic flavors of cinnamon, ginger and the distinct not hot, yet hot taste of, I believe, clove. Brilliantly done and amazing.

‘Old Fashioned Apple Pie’ is another classic brilliantly done. The crust was perfect. Soft and Golden. I have never had a more apple-y apple pie before. Don’t really have anything to say.

‘Signature Cinnamon Rolls’ is a new thing I had for the first time. So I was careful. And I was not disappointed. Though it wasn’t really “gooey” as mentioned in the menu card, the frosting was very precise and the filling was soft. I bet the dough was made with a lot of care..and if not care then a lot of expertise. It was airy and soft. The strong taste of layered cinnamon was nice. While I was awed by the flavoury cinnamon, the brown sugar with ample butter made the texture of the food really really pleasurable. A two thumbs up for the cinnamon rolls.

The plating was normal yet assuring. The pies were not piled or placed like a blob on the plate. But yeah, I really shouldn’t be looking for a presentation of pies.

The 8th Day is a hit and I’d give it a 4.5. I would love to visit soon.
